Operatic Baritone
Switch-hitting in musical theatre and opera, baritone Stephen Hobe has flourished in classical and crossover repertoire in hometown Chicago. Mr. Hobe is “a generous performer,” lauded for his charismatic and often quirky performances of particularly English and Italian repertoire.
Mr. Hobe is excited to have three seasons as a member of the Supplemental Chorus at the Lyric Opera of Chicago under his belt, where he has performed in Macbeth, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Ernani, Don Carlos, Flying Dutchman and Aida.
Mr. Hobe has been seen in opera houses across the nation, including Madison Opera, Florentine Opera, St. Petersburg Opera, MIOpera, Kenosha Opera Festival, as well as many more houses closer to home in Chicago.
Mr. Hobe studied paleontology and music theatre at Carthage College (2015). He then moved on to his Master’s degree in voice performance at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts (2018), where he studied with Kurt Link. He also works at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, where he designs educational programs as Senior Coordinator of Education.

Mr. Hobe is elated to return to the concert stage with the Salt Creek Chamber Orchestra. Recently with SCCO, Mr. Hobe supported the cast of Don Pasquale as the Notary. Mr. Hobe returns to Guglielmo after having performed the role on his collegiate stage at Carthage College.

Mr. Hobe is excited to perform more Gilbert and Sullivan with The Savoyaires. Mr. Hobe recently tackled the role of Captain Corcoran in H.M.S. Pinafore with Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, and he is delighted to explore more of the G&S canon in his debut with The Savoyaires.

Mr. Hobe returns to the concert sphere to perform as the baritone soloist in Beethoven's Ninth Sypmhony. His first crack at the solo, Mr. Hobe has also been heard in the chorus of this work at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Mr. Hobe is ecstatic to make his return to GSOC to perform in Pirates of Penzance: his introduction into the G&S canon. Mr. Hobe had a rousing time performing in their recent production of H.M.S Pinafore, and cannot wait to join this incredibly talented cast on the stage in Hyde Park.
